After a lot of hue and cry, delays, internal politics & last minute preparations, finally the world witnessed the CWG opening ceremony. Aussies and English newspapers (any many Indians, like me) had to eat their own words. A common man not only witnessed the star studded and lavish ceremony, he also witnessed and got accounted for the ever burdening TAX he had been paying in recent years. Be it the 65 Crore baloon or the giant puppets, India had never hosted an event of this magnitude.
Now, the important questions. With the grand success of the CWG opening (which by no means is over), what will be the fate of Suresh Kalmadi, his accomplices and all those who had been ear marked as CURRUPT when preparations were found to be below par and shoddy. Kalmadi and CO. have given no account of the huge amount of money that was spent in the preparations? Will there be an enquiry? Will the guilty be sent behind the bars? Or will these gentlemen be set scott free?
Yes the event was a success but as a tax payer I dont think that all the money, alloted for the games (that grew from 690 Crore originally sanctioned to 82,000 Crore) was utilized for preparations. There is still huge chunks of un-accounted money that someone needs to account for.
We had witnessed a spectacular CWG opening. Let's open the PANDORA's box now.
Kalmadi agrees to an enquiry after the games. Why can't we have a CBI lead enquiry that would put a crystal clear picture of each and every penny, claimed to be spent on preparations, in front of the tax payer. It is him who has been shrinking his daily meals to compensate for his family's living.

The Verdict Day - 30/09/2010
With a huge speculation in the minds of a common man about the all important verdict to be pronounced by 3:30pm, give a minute and a thought to the people travelling to and form Noida, UP to earn their daily bread. As if other worries in the life of a common man were not enough, today, 30/09/2010, he along with his/her family is worried about his/her security. In the morning, before leaving for the offices in Noida, people eagerly sat, glued to their TV sets to get any sort of insight on the security concerns in UP. With the news of about 32 sites in UP being declared as potential protest cores, para-millitary forces have been deployed in huge numbers. Though, Noida did not make it to that list, but for the employees working in Noida, they would not want to get stuck in the middle of any sort of communal protests.
Yes, the work is important, but not at the cost of any threats to their lives. Some organisations have gone for a full day close and some others offering the employees to leave by 2 pm.
Let's hope and pray that whatever is the decesion, the verdict is accepted by both the parties. We do not want a repeat of what has happened in years gone by.
With that, I sincerely hope that everything goes smoothly and everyone reaches their homes safely.

Common Wealth Games Mess
The Common Wealth Games, Delhi Govt's million dollar baby has turned out to be a million dollar mess. The so called world class facilities have been used by almost everyone except for the ones for whom they were originally built. We had Dogs sleeping and roaming on the beds, Laborers spitting their throats out and flooding the wash rooms, Mosquitoes breading and buzzing and a Cobra roaming around.
If we give a hard thought to it, we will realize that the Dogs, Laborers, Mosquitoes and the Cobra were all part of the plan. It is not that they are un-invited guests who some how entered the restricted zone without any one knowing about them. They are a part of a bigger picture, a strategy, laid down to maintain the integrity of the CWG preparations. They were specially hired by the CWG committee as none other than the Facility Inspectors.
Dog: The Dog was assigned the most important job of making sure that the beds were all comfy and nice. This was important, as what every athlete would require is a sound and comfortable sleep after a busy day in the field. The Dog ensured that the beds had the right amount of comfort level to ease out every bit of pain from the tired athlete's body. The athlete should get up fresh the next morning and give his/her 100%.
Why Dog? : If someone with 4 legs (and a tail) can sleep on the bed why can't a two legged, tired, non-complaining, under pressure athlete sleep quietly.
Laborer: The laborer's role and scarifies can't be over looked. Out of all the Facility Inspectors, he had to endure a lot. To go against his health, he had to consume 15-20 Tobacco Pans (Indian mouth freshener) and consume 2 full bottles of Desi Tharra (Indian Scotch) everyday. Why? His duty was to spit out all the consumed Tobacco in the wash basins and Pee all the consumed alcohol in the Loo to check the durability of the underlying drain pipes. This was the ultimate test that even the drain pipe manufactures could not have accomplished. This ensured that what ever the athletes eat and drink will easily pass through the drain pipes and wont brake down mid-way through their stay.
Why Laborer? : The athletes won't be served the kind of food the average laborer eats. They will surely get far better quality of food. So, if the drainage system can handle the laborers, it surely will handle the athletes.
Mosquitoes: The mosquitoes had an equally important assignment to complete. They were brought in to ensure that the environment is Livable (at least for the CWG duration).
Why Mosquitoes? : If a mosquito, with a heart not bigger than a sugar grain, can live happily in the village, then why cant a healthy, worked out athlete with a heart weighing more than 200gms.
Cobra: You should hand it to the CWG committee. With the Cobra in their ranks they have hit two birds with a single stone. The Cobra, spotted near the Tennis Stadium was from the patrol party, out to do 2 things. He was ensuring that the Tennis Turf was playable and secondly he was acting as an under cover agent, hunting down the potential interruptions in the games (mice, moles, etc).
Why Cobra? : The Delhi police is busy guarding the CWG Lanes and the Military has been ordered to give a helping hand in fixing the broken structures in the State of the Art & World Class stadias.
This article might act as an eye opener and clarify some of the protocols and strategies put in order by the CWG committee for the nations who are thinking of pulling out of the games.
But who cares, its a WIN WIN situation for India. We might end up with few more GOLD medals this time :) .
